My friend, Amanda, introduced me to this fun way of painting finger nails and I thought I’d pass it on to you! I will go through the steps in writing, post pictures of each step and post a YouTube tutorial, to make it easy on you. And now…How To Paint Swirly Nails:
- Collect the supplies from pictures #1-3: Clear polish, at least 10 toothpicks, paper towels, tape, disposable cup full of cold water, polish remover and at least three shades of polish.
- (Not shown) Paint a primary layer of color on nails and let dry. I recommend white or a very pale color.
- Tape under the tip nail of your nail ( between your finger and the nail with the tape facing down,) then wrap the tape on the side of the nail bed. Tape under the base of your nail bed as well. This prevents polish from getting on your finger. Repeat on every finger. It should look like pictures #4 and #5 .
- Unscrew the caps of all desired polish colors and drop just one drop of each color into the water, making sure that it spreads and not sinks to the bottom of the cup. Picture #6 illustrates the spreading. (You have to try and do this quickly so that the polish in the cup doesn’t dry.)
- Using a toothpick, swirl the different colors to make a pretty design, as shown in picture #7. *If the polish sticks to the toothpick and will not swirl, collect all of it using the toothpick and start again with fresh drops of polish.
- Take the desired finger and dip it into the swirly design in the cup. DO NOT REMOVE. With the finger still in the cup, take a toothpick and use it to collect the excess polish floating in the water. If you don’t do this, it will stick to the tape or the nail and you will have to start over.
- Remove the finger and keep the tape on. Collect any other remaining bits of polish with the toothpick after removing the finger from the water. Picture #9 shows this.
- Repeat with all 10 nails. Let nails dry for 5 minutes. Remove the tape.
- For longer lasting color, coat with a clear layer of polish and let dry. Picture #10 illustrates this.
- Enjoy!

Very cute!
